We have been shortlisted for the M&S Energy Community Energy Fund to Light Up lives atand we now NEED YOUR VOTE.
The M&S Energy Community Energy Fund has £300,000 to support renewable energy projects and technologies across the UK. Last year almost 80,000 votes were cast and 25 projects received funding.
Groundwork took on responsibility for Jarrow Hall Anglo Saxon Farm and Bede Museum in October 2016 with the official launch in April of this year. Across 11-carefully-managed acres, Jarrow Hall tells the fascinating story of Bede – the Father of English History – and the incredible world of Anglo-Saxon England. The museum has so far welcomed over 1,700 schoolchildren for live-enhancing education activities.
Prior to the launch the site saw significant investment to bring the museum and grounds up to a safe standard for visitors to enjoy. This included key works to the homes for the many animals who live on the farm, as well as critical building works to create classrooms for learners with learning difficulties and disabilities.
Voting for the Green Energy Fund launched on 4th September and runs until 20th October and your online vote will allow us to replace old inefficient lighting with energy saving LED bulbs and fittings across the museum and grounds.
Our Culture and Heritage Manager, Leigh Venus commented “Despite our ongoing efforts, we are wasting thousands of pounds every year through outdated, inefficient and expensive lighting – a significant percentage of which we inherited broken beyond repair. Your votes and support will enable us to replace all of our museum lighting to improve the experience for local schoolchildren and all of the visitors to our unique site, while savings of over £5000 annually will be used across our community and education work, all the while helping to make us more sustainable and secure our future for years to come”
