Angelcynn Reenactors: Journeys over Land and Sea
August 11 - 10:00 am - 4:00 pm
An event every day that begins at 10:00am, repeating until August 12, 2018
Adventurers of all ages are invited to join the leading re-enactors of Angelcynn in our Anglo-Saxon village. From their encampment they’ll take you on a dangerous journey over land and through time to the harbour of Jarwe, near the monastery of the Venerable Bede, as you learn how to sail their Magic Ship of the Imagination by the means the Anglo-Saxons would have known and embraced – the sun, the winds and the stars. With a passion for education and a well-deserved reputation for reaching the highest re-enactment standards, Angelcynn portray ordinary life in Anglo-Saxon England. Their skilled reenactors have worked with the BBC (Meet the Ancestors), Channel 4 (Time Team) and many museums with important Anglo-Saxon collections, including Sutton Hoo.
Suitable for all ages, land Journeys begin at 11.30 and 14:00, the Magic Ship departs at 12:00 and 2.30pm (wind and tide permitting, of course) and each event lasts about 30 minutes.
Around these journeys members of Angelcynn will be demonstrating various aspects of everyday Anglo-Saxon life including loom and tablet weaving, dyeing, cookery, pole lathing, working in wood, leather working, embroidery, music, weaponry and the skills of the warrior classes, and they will be delighted to talk to visitors about this incredible period of our history.
This event is complimentary with General Admission to Jarrow Hall.
Donations are very welcome and collection buckets will be available on the day. Every donation helps us to improve lives, help people into education and training, engage people in positive community projects and educate people about the importance of the environment.
