Twixt Land and Sea – The Railway Poster Art of Frank Henry Mason
April 1 - June 3
Adorning railway platforms up and down the country, lavishly-coloured posters advertised a myriad of UK destinations that were still a mystery to many in the first half of the 20th Century. Fine artists of the day were recruited by the major railway companies to conjure up images that would tempt millions, and Frank Henry Mason was one of the best.
Sponsored by Port of Tyne, Jarrow Hall is thrilled to present a specially-curated selection of vintage Frank Henry Mason posters and original artwork from the Mitchell Collection, showcasing the work of one of Britain’s most innovative poster designers. Elegant and with an Art Deco feel, the images are simple, strong and are incredibly evocative.
We also welcome Edward Yardley, who has written a book about Mason’s life and career, to a special event where he will talk about the work of Mason and sign copies of his book Frank Henry Mason: Marine Painter and Poster Artist.
