Easter Holidays at Jarrow Hall

Open every day throughout the holidays with a mix of activities, events and quieter days to enjoy

Jarrow Hall Anglo-Saxon Farm, Village and Bede Museum will come alive with a whole host of exciting activities and events the whole family can enjoy including:

Guided Tours around the Bede Museum, Anglo-Saxon Farm and Village
Join one of our volunteer tour guides as they guide visitors around our Bede Museum, Anglo-Saxon Farm and Village, exploring Anglo-Saxon life and Jarrow Hall through the ages.

13th, 16th and 19th April 13:00 / complimentary, general admission applies

Anglo-Saxon Farm Talks
Learn about our unique, rare-breed animals from the farm team.

Medieval Herb Garden Tours
Learn about the myths, legends and science of the plants in our medieval herb garden at the rear of Jarrow Hall House.

Family arts and crafts activities
From making your own friendship bracelets and rune stones to calligraphy and Anglo-Saxon campfire cooking there is something every age can try their hand at and get creative.

The Historical Combat Company: Re-enactments and Living History Displays.
The Historical Combat Company Team will also be continuing their restoration work of Thirlings Hall using traditional skills, where visitors will be able to even get their hands dirty and try wattle and daubing themselves.  The team will also be holding a weapons show and tell, combat demonstrations, Archery and holding interactive historic craft displays: clay pot making, beadwork bracelets, candle making and traditional cord-making.

Meet Murphy the Wolfhound
Meet Murphy and his owner as they walk the grounds, learn about the history of these giant rare breed hounds used by the Celts, Romans, and Vikings.

Smurf and Marley, the beautiful Shetland ponies from Mini Pony Hire will be on site all weekend providing rides around our grounds and lots of opportunities to interact with the ponies.

The woman who started it all at Jarrow Hall, the first female professor at Durham University talks about the historic excavations of the Wearmouth-Jarrow site.

A19 Model Railway Club Open Weekend

Founded in the mid ’50s, the A19 are one of the oldest model railway clubs in the North East. Join them in our Bede Museum Conference Room for exciting models, dioramas and all kinds of railwayana.

Quiet Days
Enjoy exploring our site in your own time during our event-free days. Bring a picnic to enjoy outside the Bede Museum or bring some food over from Hive Coffee Company; say hello to the rare ancient-breed animals of our working Anglo-Saxon demonstration farm; discover the incredible life story of the father of English history and see the stunning Codex Amiatinus in our Bede Museum; explore our grounds and our experimental reconstruction Anglo-Saxon dwellings.
